1972 Pre facelift Mk1 Capri Ebony black limited edition

Purchased and originally believed to be a 1600 Gt , and with the intention of converting it to a 3.0L Essex the owner noticed the ruby red carpet and investigated the chassis number.
it turns out this gt is not a gt but a limited edition from 1972 which should be black with a full ruby red interior and a 2.0L V4.
Most Capri fan know of the mk1 limited edition with came in orange paintwork with a louvred rear window and mustang style boot spoiler but the 72 special editions seem to be lesser known , only available in green with a black vinyl and cloth interior or ebony black with a ruby red interior and a red triple coach line along the hockey stick . Both came fully loaded with extras including opening rear quarter window, map reading light and cloth centres to the seats

Arriving to us already stripped to a shell by the customer we then sent the shell for media blasting

accompanying the shell the customer also supplied a large amount of original new old stock panels which he collected over the space of a couple of years

With  everything dismantled and catalogued the parts can all be shipped off to be powder coated and plated , chromed etc

All the new old stock panels were either acid dipped or blasted and then treated

First thing is to add some bracing to the shell due to the amount of panels that need to be changed  so we can keep the shell straight whilst the fabrication is under way

As is usual with ford Capri’s especially the Mk1’s the inner and outer sills and the A posts need replacement , the new old stock A post’s the customer has purchased turned out to be mk2/3 panels which are mostly identical all be it a few changes over the years . A small amount of fabrication and they now match the pre-facelift ones

As usual the Front leaf spring mounts had seen better days so were removed and replaced with new  panels

The toe boards have also suffered and need replacement

As have the seat mount plates

As was usual back in the day an aftermarket sunroof was fitted to the capri so a good used roof skin was sourced and stripped back and fitted into place

The inner rear scuttle ends had seen better days and needed replacing

The customer has luckily sourced 2 new old stock quarter panels along with a rear scuttle , rear panel and boot floor and drop sides so all the original corroded panels were stripped off
