Escort mk2 group 4

Richard contacted us after becoming unhappy with the paintwork of his recently fabricated Grp 4 spec Mk2; the shell was fabricated, prepared and painted before being returned to Richard for the refit but by the time Richard had almost completed the build the paintwork had started to blister and lift in a few places. On closer inspection it soon became clear that the paint had serious adhesion problems as well as moisture trapped between the layers of paint and primer.DSCF0383 The only option was to strip the paint and filler from the shell but as the car had been completely refitted Richard was reluctant to remove all the fittings and have the shell media blasted again this meant that all the paint was going to have to be removed by hand.DSCF0442 All the shell and panels had thought to have been media blasted prior to the fabrication but it soon became clear that only the shell had been blasted and the panels just sanded down and repainted, unfortunately this meant that some of the panels had multiple layers of old paint underneath the new paint and also untreated corrosion.DSCF0451 This also included painting over under-seal and wax oil.DSCF0460 A fair amount of filler was unearthed as the paint was removed and this also had to be removed due to the adhesion problems and trapped moisture.DSCF0504 DSCF0506 With all the paint and filler removed the process of prepping the shell could begin.DSCF0571 DSCF0573 Areas of corrosion had to be media blasted and treated.DSCF0581 There were also some areas that had not been repaired correctly just filled with sealer and filled over.DSCF0580 With all the prep completed the car was then refinished in Frozen white and transported to a local graphics company to have the livery applied before being returned home where Richard refitted the remainder of its trim.DSCF0621 DSCF0623 The Escort was recently unveiled at the Classic Ford event at Santa Pod as part of our display DSCF0873 DSCF0872 DSCF0871 DSCF0866 DSCF0865 DSCF0366 DSCF0371 DSCF0374 DSCF0379
