Ford capri Tickford turbo sympathetic restoration
One of only 47 cars left this Tickford turbo came in for a series of panel repaints but it soon became clear due to previous work that no panel had the same shade of diamond white so a respray was on the cards, the more we carried out the repairs requested we soon realised that shell needed a lot more work so the remaining parts were stripped off and the engine and running gear removed and the shell was shipped off for media blasting . On its return we could see the full extent of the Tickford capri’s corrosion
Despite only being 8 years old the Tickford turbo returned to Tickford for some repairs as the owner at the time was an employee , it would appear at some point it had suffered some accident damage As the O/S wing and the front valance have been replaced the Capri was treated to various repairs and paintwork along with some mechanical work and some interior upgrades to the later specifications
Thirty years later it’s still suffering from all the usual issues most Capri’s suffer from corrosion and dodgy mot style repairs
Due to the extent of the corrosion the decision was made to strip of the remaining trim and mechanicals and ship the shell off to be media blasted
With all the paint and under seal removed from the underside , engine bay and cabin area the full extent of how far the corrosion had crept was visible
