Ford Escort MK1 Cosworth Turbo

Booked in for some welding and a fabricated upgrades, at first glance a tidy looking Mk1 Escort

After a good poke around it soon becomes apparent that its going to need a fair amount of panels and fabrication to get it solid enough to cope with the Cosworth turbo engine planned.

First job is to get the old corroded/ patched up floor out

With the new floor back in and welded and the shell is a little more structural we can set about removing and replacing the other panels

New inner wings with the AVO strengtheners will replace the original but first we need to replace the corroded reinforcement panel that supports the anti roll bar/ chassis leg.

A new upper bulkhead panel was sourced but unfortunately these do no come with the various bracketry for the heater, pedal box or bonnet release cable fitted so we have had to carefully pick the originals of the old bulkhead and spot weld them on to the new one.

Large group 4 style inner arches are required to fit some large custom made wheels under at the same time as retaining the original outer arches

The A posts and bulkhead side panels are also suffering the usual escort corrosion so new panels are trimmed and shaped for a better fit.
